- CEO Star Xu admitted OKX is on high alert and reviewing its security and risk-mitigation protocols after a recent string of heists on high-profile crypto exchanges.
OKX remains on guard after a string of hacking incidents involving top crypto exchanges. Responding to a meme suggesting OKX could be next on the hit list of an infamous North Korean hacking outfit, company CEO Mingxing XU, a.k.a. Star Xu, discussed the proactive measures his team is taking to defend against potential cyberattacks.
Referring to a photo showing North Korea’s supreme leader dressed in a Grim Reaper outfit and knocking on OKX’s door after a bloodbath on others marked as Bybit, Bitget, and Binance, Xu stated the comic makes him feel “both proud and under immense pressure.”
OKX CEO Admits Platform is Not Immune to Attacks or Absolutely Secure
The OKX CEO admitted that, like other companies, he cannot 100% claim that their platform is “absolutely secure” or immune to attacks. However, he assured customers that their security and assets are its top priority.
Meanwhile, the recent $6.3 billion Binance hack only raised the stakes, putting OKX’s security, technology, and risk control divisions on high alert. He also saw it as a warning to the entire industry and a time for the company to focus on risk-mitigation measures.
OKX’s Focus
Analyzing the insights gleaned from the recent string of cybersecurity attacks on crypto exchanges, especially the one on Binance, OKX has continued working on these four key areas:
1. Real-time monitoring of stolen funds to prevent the assets from being laundered through the OKX exchange and Web3 DEX aggregator.
2. Strengthening risk controls to prevent liquidity shocks, handle the influx of liquidations, contain potential market panics, and avoid spillover to more market participants.
3. Studying attack vectors and identifying potential vulnerabilities to predict their patterns, close potential vulnerabilities, and combat new security threats, particularly those that leverage AI (artificial intelligence) agents.
4. Learning from competitors to reexamine its own security systems and avoid a repeat of previous incidents.
Customers as Priority
Rather than capitalizing on the opportunity to promote its platform and gain market share when competitors are hit with security attacks, Xu clarified that OKX’s priority is safeguarding customers and the industry’s stability. Furthermore, he believes business competition should be based on better products, technology, and services, not on adding salt to rivals’ wounds.
“In the face of security, the entire industry should stand together,” said Xu. “Protecting customer assets is OKX’s non-negotiable top responsibility.”
